Ministry of Social Security celebrates new centenary

Mrs. Sookree Sayède of Rajkumar Street, Quatre Bornes, celebrated her 100e birthday, today, in her home, surrounded by her family.

the Minister for the Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change, Mr Kavydass Ramano; the Parliamentary Private Secretary, Ms Tania Diolle; and the Deputy Mayor of Quatre Bornes, Mr. Dooshiant Ramluckhun, attended the event, extending their best wishes to the new centenarian and applauding the family for their care. Ms. Sookree Sayède expressed her joy and gratitude for the celebration.

Mrs. Sayède, a widow, was born in Rose-Hill to Indian immigrants. She lost her mother when she was eight years old, and all her six siblings have died. Her husband, whom she married when she was 20 years old, was a carpenter, while Mrs. Sayède cared for her six daughters and three sons. She has seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

On that occasion, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity presented Ms Sayède with a check for Rs 21,836; a blender; a cell phone with 50 free calls; a bouquet of flowers; the centennial medal; and a certificate for her service. She will receive a monthly pension of Rs 21,710 from now on.

In addition, the Ministry’s National Solidarity Fund gave her a check for Rs 10,000 and gifts were donated by the Senior Citizens Council.

The town council of Quatre Bornes also presented a check and a bouquet to Mrs. Sayède.
